Role Overview
As an HCA with PEG feeding skills, you’ll play a critical role in providing safe and effective care for patients with specialised feeding needs. You’ll be responsible for managing and caring for feeding tubes, administering medications via PEG, and documenting all care provided. You will also be vigilant in recognising and addressing potential complications, ensuring the comfort and safety of each patient.
Key Responsibilities
- PEG Feeding: Operate pumps and syringes to manage and administer PEG feedings.
- Tube Management: Handle various feeding tubes, including PEG, J tubes, balloon, and MIC-KEY tubes.
- Medication Administration: Administer medications through PEG, following best practice guidelines.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation and records of all procedures and patient interactions.
- Complication Management: Recognise, address, and report any complications, ensuring swift and appropriate care.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) with specific skills in PEG feeding and tube management.
- Knowledge of handling and caring for PEG, J tubes, balloon, and MIC-KEY tubes.
- Skilled in the use of pumps and syringes for feeding and medication administration.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent record-keeping abilities.
- Ability to recognise signs of complications and take appropriate action.
